Arts Umbrella

Arts Umbrella is a not-for-profit arts education centre offering programs to over 20,000 children and youth annually. Its professional dance program is highly lauded and is one of only four in the country to receive arts infrastructure funding from Canadian Heritage. Students in the post-secondary professional program have gone on to dance in leading companies around the world. The McCall MacBain Cultural Leadership Scholarships and the McCall MacBain Career Perspectives Program provide four to five of the most exceptional applicants to the post-secondary dance program with scholarships covering annual tuition fees and the costs of participating in a summer intensive at a leading dance school in another province or country. To build on the immense potential of these students, cultural sector leaders mentor the recipients to help them envision their own future roles as cultural leaders beyond their professional dance careers. The recipients also manage a peer mentorship program for younger Arts Umbrella dancers and conduct and present a career exploration project.
