Take a Hike Foundation supports high school students with mental health or behavioural issues across British Columbia. Working within public schools, Take a Hike layers additional supports on top of existing school resources in order to provide students with a full-time alternative education program. Through group therapy sessions and outdoor adventure-based activities, counsellors and educators help students process emotions, build resilience and self-awareness, and learn to use physical activity and mindfulness practices to improve mental health. In the classroom, students complete their high school credits and receive additional one-on-one counselling as per their individual needs. Take a Hike serves youth in six districts across British Columbia. The Foundation is supporting further expansion on Vancouver Island to reach additional students in Cowichan Valley and Saanich.
