Huron County, Canada (June 10, 2026) – Ten high school students from Huron County will be starting degree or diploma programs this fall as recipients of the McCall Huron County Scholarships. Each one will receive up to $44,000 to study in a program of their choosing at a Canadian public university or college. In addition, eight students will receive a one-time Finalist Award of $2,500 for distinguishing themselves in the selection process.
Recipients were chosen from across Huron County’s five high schools through a comprehensive selection process, including an online written application and in-person interviews, designed to look beyond their academic credentials for positive values, diverse contributions to their home and school communities, and the drive to make a difference in unconventional, thoughtful ways. This year’s recipients include those who have served as youth representatives and volunteers for local charities, led school clubs, trained as multi-sport athletes, worked on farms, and launched community-focused initiatives, such as an adult swim program, a menstrual hygiene product drive, and an up-cycled clothing line.
For the sixth year in a row, Huron County’s John Baker and his family will support one recipient and one finalist through their generous contribution to the program.
Established in 2019 by Marcy and John McCall MacBain, the McCall Huron County Scholarships emerged from Marcy’s desire to give back to her hometown. Growing up on a farm outside Walton, ON, she witnessed firsthand the talents and dedication of young people and the limited opportunities available to them to grow and give back to their communities, inspiring her lasting support for students to nurture their leadership.
Huron County’s youth are immensely talented, purposeful, and community-minded. John and I are proud to offer them this opportunity, which we hope will enable them to discover themselves and their ambitions, take meaningful risks, and grow as leaders for the benefit of Huron County’s communities and beyond.
Dr. Marcy McCall MacBain
By providing financial support, the scholarship encourages recipients to pursue a variety of interests and to expand their horizons, choosing programs they otherwise might not have considered, and at institutions farther away from home. This year’s recipients will be pursuing a range of programs, including chemistry, architecture, occupational therapy, and theatre, at a variety of institutions, including the University of Toronto Mississauga, the University of Ottawa, and Durham College.
Additionally, the supports will allow students to spend more time on extracurricular activities, volunteering, and internships, both on and off campus, to enhance their skills, contribute to student and surrounding communities, and stretch and grow throughout their post-secondary journeys.
Since its founding in 2019, the scholarships have supported more than 50 students from Huron County. Applications for the 2027 cohort will open in September 2026. For more information, go here.
