Concordia University, located in the heart of Montreal, Canada, serves a diverse population of over 50,000 students studying at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
The Foundation is a supporter of Concordia’s first-year transition program, Homeroom. The program helps students build relationships, develop skills to help them thrive throughout their studies, and learn how to navigate the university. The program places students in groups of about 20 – a pod – which meets weekly to take on a wide range of topics, such as learning about communication styles, understanding personal finance, study skills, and more. Each pod is facilitated by trained upper-year student mentors who lead workshops, games, and discussions. Concordia’s Homeroom team also runs in-person events throughout the year to foster community on campus and help students overcome social anxiety and isolation. The increase in in-person events has led to increased participation in pod meetings, improving the overall efficacy of the program.
