    The International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) and the Pembina Institute (Pembina) have proposed a work programme to explore how Canada can become a more credible and proactive player in addressing climate change by developing a coherent approach at the national, regional and international levels, with a focus on the deployment of clean energy policy and practices. The goal of the work programme is that Canada plays a more proactive role in addressing climate change, so that Canada becomes a leader in domestic, North American and international climate change action.

    This joint project conducted by the 3 NGOs CI, FT and NCRC is the second phase of the previous grant made in 2007 by the Foundation to two of these actors and is a renewal of MMF commitment to Liberia’s National REDD Strategy. Their joint efforts will position local communities and the government to tap new markets and increase revenues from ecosystem products and services, ranging from non-timber forest products to carbon credits in voluntary carbon markets in Liberia as well as strengthening national technical capacity and institutional structures for developing a low-carbon economy in the country.

The Secretariat is co-funded by several private foundations already active in Liberia.

    The OECD Round Tables on Sustainable development has built an enviable reputation for frank, informal exchanges between political and business leaders, NGOs and scholars supported by well-researched material. Human-induced climate change is one of the key challenges facing the global community and we believe that this Round Table could play a significant role in bringing key parties together and exploring ways forward to address climate change issues.
